Allison Chua is a Ph.D student (Vanier Scholar) in the Department of Oceanography at Dalhousie University under Dr. Douglas Wallace (Canada Excellence Research Chair in Ocean Science and Technology, Dalhousie University) and Dr. Colin Devey (GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany). She holds a BEng. in Mechanical Engineering and an MASc. in Materials Engineering. Prior to starting her Ph.D, she worked for two years as a Production Engineer at Irving Shipbuilding.
Allison's research interests lie in the development and use of autonomous or remotely operated vehicles and their use in oceanographic measurement and exploration. As part of her Ph.D, she is also a member of the Transatlantic Ocean System Science and Technology (TOSST) joint graduate school, which links ocean research between Canada and Germany. She strongly believes in research being transparent and available in a manner that is accessible and understandable to the public.
